Celebration of Sustainability 2016

I am encouraged to see the progress we are continuously making as a school to reduce our environmental impact.

Julia Black,

Interim Director LSE

The 2016 Celebration of Sustainability event celebrated the hard work of staff and students across LSE to reduce the school's environmental impacts. The event was hosted by Chief Operating Officer Andrew Young, and featured a talk from Martin Bolton, the Business Development Director of Antaco Biocoal, about Antaco's new technology and the role individuals can play in encouraging sustainable innovation.

Awards were given out to all Green Impact teams, including an impressive 14 teams who achieved gold. LSE Advancement and High Holborn hall took home the much coveted Platinum awards, awarded this year to the teams who ran projects that ranked the highest on several criteria including impact, engagement and legacy. Advancement won theirs for their 'Food Waste Week', a week-long series of events about food waste and ways to reduce it, and High Holborn were awarded for their campaign to improve the use of waste facilities in their hall.

The event also highlighted recent sustainability developments and projects at LSE, and Carr Saunders were revealed as the winners of Student Switch Off. The Annual Sustainability Report for 2014/15 was launched, with copies on hand for attendees to look through and take back to their office. Members of the LSE Beekeping society were also in attendance and set-up some of their beekeeping props for guests to look at. A special sustainable menu was provided by LSE catering, including local and seasonal produce and fresh fruit juices.
