LSE100 Assessment

Classification Scheme

The classification scheme for LSE100 is set out below. All are summative assessments and will count towards your final mark for the course.

Important note for LSE100 students in Lent term 2019/20

Given the significant disruption caused by COVID-19, we have decided to make the second Lent Term assessment for LSE100 optional.

Those who wish to submit a strategic plan will have their final grade for LSE100 calculated on the basis of four assessments. Those who do not submit will have their final grade calculated on the basis of three assessments. In both cases all assessments will be equally weighted.

Please note that no students who choose to submit this assessment will be disadvantaged by doing so. If a student's mark on this assessment could negatively affect their final mark, the assessment will be discounted and the overall mark will be calculated on the basis of three, rather than four, assessments. This discounting will apply only to the second Lent Term assessment.

As a result of this change no student will receive an interim Lent term mark for LSE100 on LSE for You during the summer of 2020. All students will receive their final mark on LSE100 at the end of their second year (summer 2021) as normal.

Traditional LSE100 classification scheme:

LSE100 Lent Term

  • Group project/presentation (25%)
  • Written argumentation (25%)

LSE100 Michaelmas Term
(The first term of your second year)

  • Group project/presentation (25%)
  • Written argumentation (25%)

There is no final examination for LSE100.

Grade requirements

In order to be classified (i.e., to complete) LSE100, you must make a serious attempt all 4 summative assessments.

For each piece of work you will be awarded a numeric mark and grade (i.e., pass, merit, distinction or fail).

At the end of the course your final mark and grade, which will be listed on your transcript, will be calculated as a total of the marks you have received for the summative assessments and awarded as follows:

Distinction      70-100
Merit                60-69
Pass                40-59
Fail                  39 or below
