REF

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions.

The School is committed to ensuring equality and diversity in all its REF preparations.

REF2021 preparations

UK funding bodies have announced initial decisions on impact and environment, and on staff and outputs. View the REF2021 summary of decisions

The School's preparations for REF are overseen by the REF Strategy Committee (REFSC) and each department has appointed a REF coordinator and impact coordinator to oversee departmental planning.

LSE’s internal timetable for preparing for REF2021 is available now, along with guidance for the first assessment exercise for research outputs.

Funding is available to support individuals to produce 3* and 4* REF outputs and  potential REF impact case studies.

Important documents related to LSE’s REF preparations will be posted here once available.

For advice and guidance on the REF contact Jo Hemmings.

Impact in the REF

Impact forms a significant element of the REF. To see how research at LSE is making a difference, visit LSE's research impact website.

To see all of the impact case studies submitted to REF2014 from across UK higher education institutions, visit the REF Impact Website.

Funding to support potential REF impact case studies is available.

For advice and guidance on impact contact Dr Rachel Middlemass.

Equality and diversity in the REF

The School is committed to ensuring equality and diversity in all its REF preparations. For REF2014 a code of practice was developed and approved by the Equality and Diversity Advisory Panel (EDAP).

The School’s REF Strategy Committee also undertook an equality impact assessment for REF2014.

Details of how the School will ensure equality and diversity for REF2021 will be posted here once available.
