Connecting to Students

Learn more about what it’s like for students to live, learn and socialise at LSE.

Due to the ongoing success of our first ever Staff Summer Festival, we’re adding an additional week of sessions on the theme Connecting to Students.

These sessions will be your opportunity to learn more about what it’s like for students to live, learn and socialise at LSE. Whether your role is student-facing, or you’re just curious about how our students experience LSE, come along to get tips for engaging students, find out how colleagues are working to put students first, get a first look at exciting projects coming in the next academic year, and ask your own questions.

Supporting Student Mental Health - Monday 20 August - 1pm-2pm

What pressures do students face during their time at LSE? How can we help support their mental health? Come and learn how to recognise when a student is struggling, why they might not feel able to seek help, and where to signpost for support in this session led by the Student Wellbeing Service.

Student Hub Drop-In (session 1) - Tuesday 21 August - 12pm-2pm

Get a sneak preview of the Student Hub app before it launches in September, find out how the app will change the way we communicate with our students, and discover how the Hub will boost student communities and enhance the experience of studying at LSE.

This isn’t a 2 hour long session – drop in any time between 12 and 2 for a coffee, chat and demo. Request a place via the TDS to let us know you're coming!

What is stress? What are the common challenges students encounter during their time at university? And what can we do to help students deal with these experiences? Come along to this session led by the Student Wellbeing Service to learn about how academic and social pressures can impact students’ wellbeing and performance at university, and strategies for managing stress day-to-day.

What is Programme Review? - Tuesday 28 August - 12pm-1pm

How are we improving the educational experience of students at LSE? How did we engage with students during the programme review?

This session will provide a brief overview of the undergraduate programme review that took place in 2017/18, including an exploration of the lessons learnt and the importance of such processes as a way to improve the educational experience of students at LSE. We will also talk about the student engagement strategy that was employed during the programme review and provide some ideas for how departments might engage with their students for the purposes of future review processes.
