Academic and Professional Development Division

APD’s vision is that LSE students see their time at LSE as an opportunity to develop a range of skills through engaging with learning opportunities that encourage them to identify and develop their interests and strengths, build their confidence and develop skills that will help them ‘shape the world’.

APD’s mission is to provide educational offerings that expand students’ horizons and equip them with many of the analytical, professional and personal skills necessary for effective engagement with complex issues in a rapidly-changing world. APD units work to:

  • Develop students’ analytical skills and broaden their intellectual horizons through interdisciplinary investigation of social issues and study of other languages and cultures.
  • Complement specialist degree education with personal and professional development opportunities.
  • Build students’ confidence in their ability to learn, adapt, create and communicate.
