Inclusive Pedagogical Approaches

Teaching approaches that support belonging, participation and learning for all students

Inclusive pedagogies focus on how teaching spaces are designed, facilitated and experienced. This strand supports academic staff to develop approaches that enable students from different backgrounds to participate meaningfully, engage with challenging ideas, and contribute to the learning community.

Our Approach

We work with teaching staff to translate inclusive education principles into everyday teaching practice. This includes supporting colleagues to create principled learning spaces, consider classroom dynamics, and use activities that help students engage with difference, dialogue and knowledge from multiple perspectives.

What We Do

  • Support academic staff to create principled learning spaces where expectations, values and responsibilities are discussed openly with students.
  • Develop practical classroom activities that help students engage with different perspectives, experiences and forms of knowledge.
  • Provide guidance on navigating difficult conversations in teaching spaces with care, clarity and shared accountability.
  • Share examples of inclusive pedagogical practice across departments to support confidence, consistency and innovation in teaching.
