Transforming how we teach, not who fits in
Inclusive pedagogy at LSE isn't about fitting students into existing systems—it's about fundamentally transforming and democratising how we teach. We're reimagining education to work for everyone from the start.
Six Approaches to inclusive pedagogies
Our framework draws on research identifying multiple pathways to inclusive teaching:
1. Appreciating Difference
Valuing the unique perspectives each student brings
2. Making Difference Visible
Acknowledging and celebrating diverse experiences in our teaching
3. Making Difference Invisible
Removing barriers so all students can engage equally
4. Addressing Diverse Needs
Adapting methods to support every learner's success
5. Social Justice
Teaching as a tool for equity and transformation
6. Democratising Knowledge
Challenging who creates knowledge and how it's shared
Creating Principled Spaces
Building environments where inclusive teaching thrives
Principled spaces are learning environments intentionally designed around core values of inclusion, respect, and equity. In these spaces:
- Power is shared between educators and students
- Multiple ways of knowing are valued equally
- Brave conversations about difference can happen safely
- Traditional hierarchies are questioned and reimagined
- Every voice contributes to the learning community
From Theory to Practice
We support educators in moving beyond good intentions to create genuinely inclusive learning experiences that transform both what and how we teach.
