LSE is committed to sustainable investment at a governance level, through research and teaching, as well as through the work of many other teams in our community.
Leading research
- Grantham Research Institute: LSE’s Grantham Research Institute (GRI) seeks to effect a sustainable, inclusive and resilient world, pursued through research, policy analysis and training on climate change and the environment. The Transition Pathway Initiative (TPI) is part of GRI, and uses detailed and transparent assessment methodologies, including Carbon Performance, Management Quality and Net Zero Standards, to evaluate corporate entities. LSE’s Finance Division uses TPI’s analysis to evaluate our own investment holdings and the results are published annually
- Global School of Sustainability: LSE’s Global School of Sustainability (GSoS) brings together the wealth of social science expertise at LSE to inform policy that can help to rapidly and equitably create the economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protections crucial to ensuring a sustainable future; convene global experts; and train the future generation of leaders. One of GSoS’ key themes is creating sustainable finance and business. This includes the Initiative in Sustainable Finance, which was launched in 2025 by LSE academics, including the co-authors of the paper Sustainable Investing: Evidence from the Field which won the UN PRI Best Academic Paper award in 2024.
- CETEx: LSE’s Centre for Economic Transition Expertise supports the delivery of sustainable, inclusive and resilient economies and financial systems across Europe.
