Francesco Caselli is the Norman Sosnow Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics, a Fellow of the British Academy, and a Fellow of the Econometric Society.
Having obtained his undergraduate degree at the University of Bologna and his PhD at Harvard University, he has taught at the University of Chicago and at Harvard University prior to joining the LSE. He has held several editorial positions including Managing Editor of the Review of Economic Studies, Co-editor of the Journal of Development Economics, and Co-editor of Economica. He has also held several research leadership positions, including Programme Director of the Macroeconomics and Growth Programme at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), Co-Director of the Macro Research Programme at the International Growth Centre (ICR), and Director of the Macroeconomics Programme at the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP). At the LSE he has served as Head of the Economics Department and is currently Vice-Chair of Academic Board.
Francesco has published extensively in the major professional journals in economics. Some of the topics he has contributed to include the relationship between economic growth, technical change, and inequality; the determinants of economic development; the interplay between development and the sectoral structure of the economy; the selection of politicians; the economic and political consequences of natural-resource abundance; the contribution of schooling to growth, and others. He is currently writing a book on the role that well designed worker cooperative could play in a more inclusive model of economic growth.
