Niamh is Professor of Financial Markets Law in the LSE Law School and previously served as Head of the Law School and as LSE’s Vice Chair of Appointments Committee (VCAC). She is a Fellow of the British Academy, an Honorary Member of the Royal Irish Academy, a member of the Academia Europaea and was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Zurich. Niamh works in the area of EU financial regulation and has written a number of books in this area, including EU Securities and Financial Markets Regulation (OUP, 4th edition, 2023) and The Age of ESMA. Governing EU Financial Markets (Hart, 2018). She sits on the Editorial Boards of a number of journals, including the European Law Review, and was an Editor of the Oxford Handbook on Financial Regulation (OUP, 2015), with Professors Eilís Ferran and Jennifer Payne.
Niamh is currently an External Member of the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Committee. She previously served as an independent director on the board of the Central Bank of Ireland and as a member of the Board of Appeal of the European Supervisory Authorities. Niamh also served as Chair of the Commission on Taxation and Welfare, established by the Irish government in 2022 to review the taxation and welfare systems.
