LSE Festival: How to save the planet

Monday 15 to Saturday 20 June 2026

Guidance for submission of proposals

Thank you for your interest in submitting a proposal for the LSE Festival: How to save the planet. Holding an event as part of the Festival is an excellent way to collaborate with colleagues, boost the profile of your research and reach out to new audiences.

The climate crisis will affect all parts of the world, transforming the way (and where) we live, and how our societies function. LSE Festival 2025 imagined diverse better futures, but they would be meaningless if coming at the expense of our planet. What can (and should) we be doing to save the Earth, its people and environment?

We are looking for event ideas that bring together LSE research and expertise with non-academic perspectives to explore the impact of the climate crisis across all areas, and how individuals, communities, organisations, corporations, and those with political power should be tackling this global challenge as well as other existential threats, showcasing the importance of the social sciences.

We encourage you to think broadly about the theme (it could be lessons from history, for example, or superheroes in popular culture) and to consider different event formats including workshops, performances, film screenings, exhibitions and family day activities. All events should be accessible to a public audience.

Your proposal should include an explanation of the idea for the event, how it fits with the theme and ideas for speakers. One of the main objectives of the LSE Festival is to showcase LSE research and expertise, so we would like to have at least one LSE speaker presenting. The Festival is aimed at a broad public audience, and events should bring together academic and non-academic perspectives, framing research in an accessible way.

We usually hold around 30 events during Festival week. Proposals which don't make it into the final programme may still be perfect for other engagement opportunities linked to the theme throughout this academic year. The LSE Festival Steering Group will review all proposals and decide on the programme, and we aim to feedback to everyone at the end of November. The deadline for proposal submissions is Friday 31 October 2025. For any questions, please emails comms.events@lse.ac.uk
