Accessing eduroam via the LSE wireless network (Mac OS X 10.5)

You must have a Wi-Fi network card either integrated or external to your computer.

You will also need to ensure that your Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard has been updated to OS X 10.5.2 or later. Instability issues exist with earlier revisions which may cause your Mac to crash.

When making changes to your System Preferences as described below, you might be required to enter your local Mac password; this will be the password you use to log in to your Mac.

Users are required to install and regularly update antivirus software.

To connect using AirPort status menu:

1. Click the AirPort status menu at the top right of your screen and select Turn AirPort On
2. Click the AirPort status menu again and select eduroam
3. If this is your first time connecting via the LSE wireless network, a certificate verification box will appear. Click Continue
4. When prompted, enter the following information:
   Username: Your LSE email address e.g. j.bloggs@lse.ac.uk
   Password: Your LSE network password

Your Mac should now connect to eduroam.

You can check you are connected by ensuring the status on the AirPort page reads Authenticated via PEAP (Inner Protocol: MSCHAPv2)

To configure your Mac OS 10.5 Leopard computer:

1. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and select System Preferences...
2. When the System Preferences window appears, open Network
3. If the options are greyed out, click the lock at the bottom left of the Network window to unlock the settings. Enter your local password when prompted and click OK
4. From the list of network adapters, select AirPort
5. Ensure that Show Airport status in menu bar is ticked
6. Click Advanced...
7. Select the TCP/IP tab
8. From the Configure IPv4 drop-down menu, select Using DHCP
9. Ensure that the textbox DHCP Client ID is blank
10. Select the 802.1X tab
11. From the Domain: drop-down menu, select User
12. Click the + sign below the Configurations list
13. Enter Eduroam as the name of the configuration item
14. Enter or select the following details
    Wireless network: eduroam
    Username: Your LSE email address e.g. j.bloggs@lse.ac.uk
    Password: Your LSE network password
    Authentication: tick PEAP; untick the other options
15. Click OK | Apply
16. Close System Preferences by pressing Apple key + Q

Some users have found that their Mac OS X device automatically connects to The Cloud WiFi network. The Cloud is for use by guests, and should not be used if you are able to connect to eduroam.

To make eduroam your default WiFi network:

1. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and select System Preferences...
2. When the System Preferences window appears, open Network
3. Click Advanced
4. Drag eduroam to the top of the Preferred Networks list
5. Click OK and then Apply to save your eduroam as your preferred network
