Configure your Apple iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad for eduroam

This document describes how to connect to the eduroam network service. It will let you use the wireless network at other universities participating in the eduroam service.

Requirements

You must ensure that you have upgraded your device to version 2.0 or above. You can check and upgrade the firmware version by connecting the device to iTunes. You must also ensure that you are in proximity of an eduroam wireless hotspot.

Configuration

  1. From the Home screen click Settings
  2. Click Wi-Fi. Ensure the Wi-Fi is set to On
  3. From the list of available wireless networks, click eduroam
  4. In the Username field enter your LSE email address e.g j.bloggs@lse.ac.uk
  5. In the Password field enter your LSE password and click Join
  6. Click Accept to accept the LSE's Eduroam security certificate
  7. A tick will appear next to eduroam when the iPhone connects to the network.
  8. Note: To disconnect from the eduroam wireless network, turn the wireless off

Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing problems connecting, you may need to remove any profiles you have used to previously access campus wireless before attempting to connect to eduroam.

Removing wireless profiles:

  1. Go to Settings. Choose Wi-Fi
  2. Select the blue i icon next to eduroam
  3. Choose Forget this Network
  4. Repeat this for any other LSE wireless network profiles before attempting to reconnect to eduroam.

Some users have found that their device automatically connects to The Cloud WiFi network. The Cloud is for use by guests; all LSE staff and students should connect to eduroam. If you find that your device indicated that you are connected to the internet but that services are not working, please ensure you are connected to the eduroam network.
