I was not ‘Black’ by choice, but by racialization.

I am Yoruba, British-Nigerian.

‘Black’ was meant to be an insult and something to be ashamed of.

I was not meant to reclaim the word and it was not meant to be empowering.

But I have and it is. I am Black every day.

I’ve made my peace with it. Have you made peace with yours?

October is not my one month – they all are!

Black people are hidden in plain sight!

We are both hyper visible and invisible

but for us we are Black 365.

Black Joy is an act of resilience, revolution, and resistance.

I am Proud to be Black.
