Split over two half-days the workshops consist of group discussions and interactive activities that give participants the opportunity to deepen their understanding of issues relating to race in higher education and at LSE in particular.
Equity and diversity issues can be complex and emotive, and we recognise that participants may be anxious about the focus of the workshops and the potential for ‘getting it wrong’. The session is designed to help participants to navigate their way through the issues in a way that is both supportive and challenging.
Content that is covered across the two workshops includes:
- Understanding and talking about race
- Reviewing the legislation
- Language and terminology
- “Whiteness” and privilege
- Racism - overt and covert
- Understanding micro-aggressions
- Individual and organisational strategies for tackling racial inequities
Logistics
These workshops are delivered via 2 half day sessions, with a 2-week interval for reflection and review.
Participants are committed to attending both workshops. These have spread out over the year to enable staff the flexibility to choose dates that worked for them.
Sessions are capped at 20 participants. To prevent over-booking, once workshops have reached full capacity, we will remove session dates from any registration forms.
