Benefits for the School
- The general duty, which forms part of the Equality Act 2010, requires public bodies, such as the School, which carry out a public function to analyse the effect of existing and new policies, procedures and practices in relation to equality. More information can be found on the Equality Analysis and the Public Sector page.
- It is an effective tool to tackle discrimination and unmet need in our place of work and student community.
- It is considered an integral component of business planning and policy review.
- It can lead to better and more inclusive decision-making.
Benefits for Heads of Departments, managers and service leaders
- It will focus Heads of Departments, managers and service leaders on the issues affecting protected groups, so they are clear what they are checking against.
- It will produce an increased network of officers undertaking an equality analysis in a consistent way which will promote sharing and support.
- By introducing a School-wide approach, we will have a collection of information to demonstrate equity, diversity and inclusion in our projects.
By not completing an equality analysis, departments and divisions open themselves up to challenges from Council and various School committees, or members of the public once a policy, practice or service is in the public domain. Potentially, this can be damaging, costly and impede the business of the School.
