A new space for events

We established and opened the Community Space to cultivate an environment of inclusivity, understanding, and collaboration for individuals representing various protected characteristic groups. Therefore we encourage you to use the space to hold any gatherings, events, discussions and to initiatives that promote inclusivity and intersectionality; and foster and grow relationships with each other.

Upcoming events

The EDI Team has dedicated its efforts to coordinating and promoting a diverse range of events centred around EDI. To facilitate this, we have introduced our new dynamic EDI Calendar — a centralized platform showcasing a variety of EDI-related activities. This calendar is accessible to both staff and students, allowing you to not only view scheduled events but also submit your own contributions.

Ensuring events are accessible

We always encourage you to organise your own events! However when doing so remember to consider how to make the event accessible to people with disabilities.

In-person events

When choosing a venue, consider the accessibility of the room. Consult the Campus accessibility and map. To ensure that disabled access doors are open outside of office hours please contact LSE Security on 020 7955 6200.

Likewise, to ensure wheelchair access, consult our detailed AccessAble access guides to the LSE campus and residences; and route maps between key locations.

The larger venues at LSE are fitted with either induction loops or infra-red transmitters. Please refer to Venue Information. You should contact DTS, DTS.Teaching.Support@lse.ac.uk, if you want to request a portable hearing loop for smaller venues.

The LSESU has also produced a comprehensive checklist that anyone can use, both whilst planning an event and during an event.

Online events

There are various things you can consider when ensuring online teaching is accessible to disabled studentsThe same considerations apply to online events.

Live transcripts and subtitles can now be generated automatically when using ZoomLearn how to set these up for your event. Alternatively you can organise our external supplier (1-2-1 Captions) to provide high quality live captioning.

Teams also provides options for captioning and transcriptions, but these can only be turned on by attendees once the meeting has started. You also need to make this option available to attendees before the meeting. If an alternative to Teams cannot be used, make attendees aware of this option and how to use it if they so wish.

Supporting materials

Whether your event is online or in-person, any supporting material you may use in the event should also be accessible. LSE has a practical guide to creating accessible resources here.
