We are inviting our Black and Global Majority staff in bands 4-6 to participate in the RISE Group Coaching Circle. This exclusive program, with 12 places, is designed to empower and support your personal and professional development. 

Realise, Inspire, Support, and Empower (RISE) - these are the core principles that frame the RISE Coaching Circle Program. The EmbRace committee are committed to providing opportunities for Black and Global Majority Staff to enhance leadership skills, navigate workplace challenges with confidence and grow their network. 

What Can Participants Expect?

  • Effective Collaboration and Leadership: Develop the skills to handle issues and conflicts, fostering collaboration and effective leadership. 

Who are the RISE Coaching Circle Coaches?

Melissa Nicholson and Adeola Akande Pierre-Noël, will guide and support participants throughout the RISE Coaching Circle Programme. They are committed to empowering, motivating, and inspiring strides forward in the careers of Black and Global Majority colleagues. 

Session Dates

The Program is being run in April/ May 2024 

  1. Applications close Monday 8 April
  2. Responses will be provided Friday 12 April 
  3. Away Day, Session 1: Friday 19 April - 10:00-16:00 – Venue TBC 
  4. Session 2: Wednesday 24 April, 2hr session 
  5. Session 3: Friday 10 May. 2hr session 
  6. Session 4: Friday 17 May. 2hr session 
  7. Session 5: Friday 31 May. 2hr session

 11.00am: Workshop: 'Self-Confidence in the Workplace: A Creative Toolkit'

Lakesha Arie-Angelo is a Theatre Director, Writer, Dramaturg, Facilitator and Associate Artistic Director at Clean Break; a theatre company making work with and for women who have experienced the criminal justice system. Lakesha’s previous role was Associate Director at Soho Theatre. From the fundamental skills and exercises used in the theatre industry, this workshop is designed to enable participants to connect to breath, body and voice in order to show up as their best selves in the workplace.

1.30pm: Motivational Speaker: 'The Champion Few People Believed Could Be'

Daniel Caines, a prominent figure in the post-GBs 400m 'golden age,' stands out as one of only three British athletes to achieve the prestigious title of 400m world champion. Despite grappling with severe injuries, his experiences embody sheer determination, showcasing his ability to achieve success against all odds. Daniel challenges us with his remarkable journey, characterised by resilience and belief which are available to all of us.

Can I apply if I’m not part of the LSE Black or Global Majority community in bands 4-6?

 Why is it for Black and Global Majority staff only? 

LSE’s Race Equity Plan outlines steps the School is taking to increase diversity in leadership. This programme supports this goal. What if I can’t commit to attending all 6 sessions? 

Please only apply if you can commit to all sessions. If you can’t we hope to run this programme another time where the timings may better suit you availability. 


Does my manager need to give permission for me to attend? 

You manager needs to sign off on your form. This programme is an initiative with the support of Andrew Young COO. Please get in touch if we can assist in supporting you secure buy-in from your manager. 


How long does the programme run for? 

The key dates will be between April and May 2024 with a follow up social session at a date to be confirmed. 


When do I find out if I am successful? 
Applicants will receive a response by 12 April 2024.


What happens if the programme is oversubscribed? 
We hope that this is the first of many RISE Coaching Circles. In the meantime, we will direct you to alternative development opportunities available through Organisational Learning and Embrace.
