Meet the Committee

We are always open to volunteer involvement and to ideas for how we can best support you!

Spectrum Committee

Spectrum's Management Committee ensures Spectrum represents the needs of LSE's LGBTQIA+ community. Run by our dedicated volunteer committee members, we work on: building community through organising social events and activities, reviewing and consulting on policies that impact queer people at LSE, ensuring that the voices of our membership are heard across LSE and especially in decision-making spaces, and representing and celebrating queerness at the annual London Pride March and the Trans+ Pride March. We are always open to volunteer involvement and to ideas for how we can best support you.

Kay O'Neill

Kay O’Neill (they/them) | Co-chair

Call me Kay, okay? I’m your friendly LSE campus they/them glam femme and Communications and Events Manager in the Department of Government. I am the communications cheerleader of the department and specialise in branding that pops, photography that represents, and organising off-the-chain events. I’m the co-chair of Spectrum where I support the committee with organising events throughout the year, consulting on policies which impact queer people, letting our community know what we are up to through our newsletter, and of course, celebrating the LSE way at the London Pride March and Trans+ Pride March. To find out more about what Spectrum does, read my Staff News interview.

Ask me about: communications and community, gender bending and yogic bending, social transitions and musical transitions

Bryan Roberts

Bryan W Roberts (he/him) | Co-chair

Hi there! I'm the co-chair of Spectrum with Kay O’Neill, a chaotic polyamorous bisexual, and Professor of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method at LSE, where I have worked since 2013. I am British-American, born in the City of Angels, and am happy to banter in Spanish, French, or Croatian, having fallen in love in many places. In matters of little importance I find that it is style that matters most, whereas in matters of great importance—it is again style that matters most.

Ask me about: queer life in London, LGBTQIA+ policy on campus, and any variety of the aesthetic experience

Andrew Crane

Andrew Crane (he/they) | Communications Officer

Heyy, I'm Andrew the Estates department’s most fashionable receptionist and Spectrum communications officer. I joined LSE just over a year ago, where I support the Estates department with all its many admin needs; from printing to posting, to minute taking and banana bread baking. I was born in Liverpool and moved to London in 2018 to do my undergrad in Anthropology (my dissertation was on the wonderful ways queer people form identities through astrology!). As Spectrum’s communications officer, I am also editor-in-chief of our amazing newsletter, kinda like Ana Wintour but without the bob. I love reality tv, ceramics, poetry, and niche queer cinema.

Ask me about: south London's best charity shops, comms, poetry, anthropology and working-class politics

Joss Harrison

Joss Harrison (he/they) | Events Officer

Already, somehow, an LSE veteran at 26, my day job is supporting the Phelan US Centre’s events, student initiatives and communications. I’m proud to be events manager at Spectrum, helping to organise our diverse offering of everything from book clubs to bake-offs. I believe that our committee’s role is to serve all the needs and desires of our wonderful membership, so please do reach out if you ever have any thoughts about events you’d like to see Spectrum put on. As Communications Manager for DAWN, accessibility is a principle that is also very close to my heart, so I’d love to hear any suggestions about how our events could be more inclusive. My mum was clearly onto something when she gave me an agendered name; my pronouns are he/they.

Ask me about: events, communications, and the Great British Bake-off

Dimitris Thomopoulos

Dimitris Thomopoulos (he/him) | PSS Policy Officer

Hey hey, gorgeous people! Dimitris here—your fabulous, slightly over-caffeinated PSS Policy Officer for the most iconic LGBTQ+ Staff Network in the UK (some say the world, and honestly, who am I to argue?).

I’ve been haunting LSE for two decades (yes, I am basically an institution at this point), with the last 9 years spent at the Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science. There, I juggle my life as Executive Officer to the HoD and EDI Officer. Alongside the amazing Laura, I handle all things queer policy at LSE, fighting tirelessly for our community’s rights.

When I’m not deep in advocacy, you might find me upside down—literally—because I also teach yoga at LSE. Balance, darling! What truly matters is the community we build every day and the changes we push for, even when we have to gently (or not-so-gently) nudge senior management.

Oh, and let’s not forget—when we’re not lobbying, we are living—aka partying like it’s 1999. Pride? Trans Pride? We’re there, serving looks and changing lives!

Ask me about: policy at LSE, yoga, why the British sun is a scam, and my encyclopedic knowledge of olive oil
