Professor Eric Neumayer is the School’s Deputy President and Vice Chancellor as well as Vice President and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Planning and Resources). Prior to this he held the positions of Head of the Department of Geography & Environment, Vice-Chair of the Appointments Committee and in September 2016 he became LSE’s inaugural Vice President and Pro-Vice Chancellor Faculty Development. He is also a Professor of Environment and Development in the Department of Geography and Environment.

He studied economics, political science and development studies in Germany and at LSE. His main research interests lie in environmental economics, international political economy and quantitative research methods. He has published widely in a range of journals across different social science disciplines and is the author of four books, most recently Robustness Tests for Quantitative Research (with Thomas Plümper), Cambridge University Press 2017.

He is pleased to have won a teaching prize at the occasion of his Major Review (LSE’s equivalent to a tenure review) and regards excellence in teaching/education and excellence in research as equally important for fulfilling LSE’s mission, which is ‘to know the causes of things for the betterment of society’
