Tsinghua University was established in 1911. Its campus is situated on the site of the former imperial gardens of the Qing Dynasty, and is surrounded by a number of historical sites in northwest Beijing. Ranked 25th globally in the 2024 QS World University Rankings, Tsinghua has developed at a breathtaking pace into a comprehensive research university with nearly 60,000 students.

Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC)

Global Alliances of Universities on Climate (GAUC) Logo

The Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC) was launched in January 2019 at the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. LSE is proud to continue to co-chair this key alliance together with Tsinghua

LSE’s flagship research unit on climate change and sustainability, the Grantham Research Institute chaired by Lord Nicholas Stern is actively involved in GAUC. It organises events under the China Series and produces important reports and briefs to bring together experts from across policy, academia and industry. 

The Tianyang Scholarship

Students enrolled in Tsinghua's Institute for Hospital Management who have been accepted on one of four master's degree programmes in the Department of Health Policy are eligible to be selected for the Tianyang Scholarship supported by the Shanghai Medical Innovation and Development Foundation. Qualifying programmes include:

  • MSc International Health Policy
  • MSc International Health Policy (Health Economics)
  • MSc Global Health Policy
  •  MSc Health Data Science

Schwarzman Scholars

SwcharzmanScholarsCampus747x420Schwarzman Scholars is a 10-month fully funded Master's Degree in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University. At the heart of the program are world-renowned advisers, a rigorous and innovative study of global affairs, and hands-on exploration of Chinese culture and commerce.

LSE-Tsinghua Collaborations

Our faculty regularly collaborate on research and other projects. We welcome Tsinghua scholars and researchers to our campus to work alongside LSE academics to advance knowledge exchange and foster mutual understanding.

In May 2023, Prof Yuezhi Zhao, Humanities Chair Professor and Distinguished International Fellow in Residence at School of Journalism and Communications at Tsinghua University, gave a lecture at LSE on ‘Communication, Culture and Rural Revitalization in China’.

The Saw Swee Hock Southeast Asia Centre also hosted roundtable discussion with Early Career Researchers (ECRs) around the subject of challenges and opportunities when undertaking fieldwork in Southeast Asia. A video recording is available here.  

The Confucius Institute for Business London

CLCB-WEBSITEThe Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL) is a non-profit educational partnership between LSE and Tsinghua University. It was launched in 2006 and helps London business communities to learn Mandarin and to develop their understanding of business cultures in China.

Tsinghua University welcomes an LSE delegation in Beijing
