 CIVICA European Week 2025

10 LSE undergraduate students recently travelled to sunny Bucharest, Romania, to take part in CIVICA's annual 'European Week' programme.

European Week is hosted by a different CIVICA institution each year, and this year's programme was hosted by member university The National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA), and focused on the theme of 'Youth Empowerment.'

Over 100 students took part in the programme from across eight European universities in France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Sweden and Vienna. LSE students participated in a full itinerary of activities throughout the week-long programme which aimed to foster knowledge exchange, debate and international collaboration.

Some of these activities included:

  • A panel event on 'Building Resilient Communities in the Age of Disruption'
  • A lecture on 'Using Satellite Data to Defend Sustainability in a Polarised World'
  • Mentorship sessions
  • Entrepreneur Roundtable Discussions
  • A field trip to the National Stadium
  • A guided tour of Buchrest Palace of Parliament and policymaking panel sessions
  • A visit to 'Piata Obor', Romania's biggest marketplace
  • Group presentations focused on specific case studies
  • Group dinners, lunches and social events in Bucharest!

What did LSE students think of their European Week experience?

"A very insightful experience meeting students from all across Europe, learning different skills and networking." - Connie Paterson

"An unforgettable experience where I made core memories that will stay with me for a lifetime." - Sandy Djomo-Tchouamou

"The biggest highlight of European Week was undoubtedly the people I met throughout the experience. Despite coming from different years and degrees, the LSE students instantly bonded, and we enjoyed exploring Bucharest and the nightlife together. I also appreciated the group project, where students from different universities brought their own disciplines and academic backgrounds collaborated effectively to create an enriching discussion." - Saki Iked

"The week I spent at SNSPA was an amazing opportunity to tackle real world issues and meet new people! I highly recommend this experience as it was a great way to connect with students from all across Europe, explore a new city and step outside your comfort zone!" - Maryam Siddiqui

"Life at LSE can feel quite insular, however the European Week made me realise that I can be part of a global university community. I made friends from around Europe who will stay friends for years to come, I visited a new country which surpassed my experience but most valuably I felt part of a welcoming community that challenged norms about life goals that often feel entrenched in LSE life." - Adam Sizoo

"European Week was full of new experiences, new bondings and new memories. Highlight of my summer!" - Irini Saha
