The University of Cape Town (UCT) regularly ranks amongst the top institutions in Africa. The university’s motto ‘Spes Bona’ translates as ‘Good Hope’, which reflects the university’s official creed of optimism, dating back to when UCT was a centre of opposition to government policy in the apartheid years.
LSE and the University of Cape Town have complementary expertise and foci, with strong track records in bridging research and policy communities. Both are located close to their national parliaments and produce evidence-based research that informs policy.
LSE and UCT became institutional partners in May 2010. Their close relationship has resulted in sustained institutional exchanges which includes a joint MSc/MA degree in Global Media and Communications.
From 2022, anthropology undergraduates will be given the chance to participate in a student exchange with UCT. Consult the department's website for more details.
The Department of Anthropology runs a Year Abroad Programme with the University of Cape Town.
The programme is for one academic year taken between Year 2 and Year 3 of the BA/BSc in Social Anthropology and BA Anthropology and Law.
