Community of Practice in Research and Innovation Evidence and Analysis

Established in August 2024, the Community of Practice (CoP) in Research and Innovation (R&I) Evidence and Analysis is a network of professionals who interrogate R&I data, policies and strategies.

The CoP consists of colleagues who work in a diverse range of roles, including R&I strategy, policy development, data analysis and practice-focused metaresearch at institutions such as universities, mission groups and government departments.

The CoP is led by the R&I Evidence and Analysis Team at LSE and activities are co-ordinated through a steering group consisting of representatives from across the CoP membership. The CoP also works in partnership with the Association of Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA) and their Metaresearch Special Interest Group.

Activities of the CoP include:

  • Networking opportunities for R&I professionals
  • Sharing innovative approaches to interrogating R&I systems, data, and practice to influence decision making
  • Horizon scanning and understanding emerging themes within the R&I ecosystem
  • Collaborative metaresearch projects focused on research operations, policy and strategy.

Steering Group

The steering group provides guidance on the strategic direction of the CoP, supports the conceptualisation and planning of programmes of activity, advocates for the CoP, provides advice on ways to build cross-sector collaborations, and generates ideas for practice-based metascience projects.

Each steering group member serves a two-year term (with the option of an additional year) and the group meets four times per year. The group is chaired by the co-founders of the CoP, Dr Christopher Daley and Grace McConnell.
