Landing at LSE: providing a supportive Welcome to ND students and those who shared a disability

The campus day was well structured and sensitive to neurodiverse needs (small breaks)

I enjoyed the ability to connect with other students

Landing at LSE is a welcome programme designed to help new students who are neurodiverse or who have shared a disability with the School feel more confident navigating campus, meeting key support teams, and connecting with peers ahead of the start of term.

Acknowledging that some students find the first days on campus especially demanding. Landing at LSE provides early, proactive support through a smaller-scale programme that prioritises clarity, accessibility and a calmer environment, alongside practical guidance on the services and adjustments available at the School.

Who it is Landing at LSE for?

Landing at LSE is aimed at new students who are neurodiverse or who have shared a disability with LSE during the university application process, and who would welcome an introduction to campus and support services in a quieter setting.

How it has supported our students this academic year

During Welcome 2025, the Landing at LSE programme ran two sessions: an online briefing followed by an on-campus day, bringing together teams from across the School to introduce students to key support, spaces and student-led networks.

  • The online session featured presentations and a Q&A from the Student Wellbeing Service (SWS), the Disability and Wellbeing Service (DSSA), the Students' Union  and the Library, focusing on support and resources for neurodiverse and disabled students.
  • An in-person campus day that featured guided tours of key spaces and quieter study areas, a Library visit led by a librarian highlighting priority facilities and resources, and a bespoke tour of the gym. Plus structured opportunities for students to meet peers and take part in low-pressure activities.

What students said

Feedback from 28 participants that attended the day on campus highlighted the value of meeting other students, building familiarity with the campus, and receiving tailored information in an environment designed with accessibility in mind.

When asked what they found particuarly useful, or enjoyable, students said:

  • The opportunity to meet and connect with other students and also staff.
  • Information around course disability supervisors.
  • The campus tour and becoming familiar with disability related study spaces.
  • It was well structured, sensitive to neurodiverse needs (e.g. small breaks).
  • The information was tailored for disabled students.

What’s planned for Welcome 2026

For Welcome 2026/27, the team is focusing on developing the in-person campus day, working with LSE LIFE and Navigate, a dedicated support network for undergraduate students who meet the eligibility criteria for a contextual offer.

All students who have shared a disability with the School will be encouraged to attend the in-person campus day.

Building on student feedback, planned enhancements to the programme include reducing the density of morning presentations and creating more opportunities for students to meet teams in person during campus visits. Plus, timing of the events will be reviewed to identify a quieter point in the welcome period, taking into consideration early access for students moving into halls and the needs of international students.

Ultimately, the ambition is to expand Landing at LSE over time so that more students can benefit from the tailored support and more sessions can be added.

How departments and divisions can support the programme help

Landing at LSE forms part of the School’s wider commitment to inclusion, helping students access support early and begin their studies with greater confidence.

Departments and professional services can support the programme by being aware of students who may benefit from additional guidance during welcome, and by signposting eligible students to Landing at LSE.
