Asynchronous courses

As we prepare for the next academic year of online/hybrid teaching, it’s worth considering your options for creating pre-recorded content. This mini-course shows you how pre-recorded content can be used in lectures or as stand-alone resources – which technologies to use, what are the pros and cons, which content lends itself to being pre-recorded, the pros and cons etc. In addition to principles of good practice, the course includes examples of pre-recorded content from the LSE and beyond, scenarios, and a discussion forum where you can ask questions or leave comments about the content in the course or on a related topic.

This is an asynchronous course in Moodle and you can complete it at your own pace. There is no obligation to complete the entire course; it is designed so that you can dip in and out and pick and choose what you need.

Moodle is the ideal place to create interactive content that will allow you to focus (and shorten) your zoom/ face to face time to the essential needs of your students, such as asking questions and learning with and from each other in structured discussions.

This moodle course area introduces academics to creating interactive learning activities in their Moodle courses. It collates resources such as PPT introductions, links to PDF guides and interactive examples. Enrolled participants can use the sandbox to try it out for themselves, and share materials, ideas, thoughts and questions in the forum.

As we move to online and hybrid learning, getting up to speed with Moodle is essential for all student-facing staff. This course introduces you to the basics of Moodle editing. The key features of this course are step-by-step instructions on carrying out important tasks in Moodle, a sandpit where you can practise the skills you’re learning on the course, and signposting and links to more complex functionality in Moodle and other learning technologies. Most importantly, this asynchronous course has been designed so that you can proceed at your own pace. Drop-in sessions are available if you want live help.
