As business partners, FP&A Managers collaborate with and support Budget Controllers in achieving value for money for their individual business units and the School.

The core services we provide are as follows:

Operational services

To represent each Department/Division to the rest of the Finance Division, acting as key contact, and including:

  • Providing regular reports to the business and supporting relevant committees
  • Carrying out month-end processes to ensure management reports are accurate
  • Assisting the School Management Committee (SMC) in the development of financial  objectives for service areas and other business units
  • By taking a business partnering approach to working with service areas and departments, help them achieve their objectives and School strategic aims
  • Ensure financial systems, processes and reporting are continually enhanced to the School’s needs.

In the longer term with OneFinance we expect to have much improved reporting for business units and therefore ease the transactional nature of some finance related tasks currently performed, allowing time for more value-added, analytical work.

Planning, advice and support services

We work in an open, transparent and supportive fashion with Budget Controllers - always as advocates for the whole School – ensuring that decisions and solutions offer the best value for money and align to LSE’s financial and Strategic Plans. In this context, we:

  • Assist in the preparation of business cases, in a collaborative fashion, to ensure they provide the best long-term value for the School
  • Assist SMC in establishing sustainable budgets and forecasts for the School
  • Help academic departments, Centres, and service areas to achieve their targets, through regular support, discussion and independent scrutiny
  • Supporting the Procurement team in developing analysis to identify opportunities for securing value for money for the School

Please involve your FP&A Manager in any new plans as early as possible.  This ensures you receive financial advice from the outset, which helps in ensuring the financial implications of future plans and options are fully developed and understood, and eases latter stage approval processes
