Career development support
This term we’re focusing our Organisational Learning offer on Career Development.
We’ve updated our toolkit to support PS staff in identifying and pursuing options to develop their careers. The toolkit is packed with information where you can Find out about different ways you can develop your career at LSE, how you can be better at job applications and interviews and where you can get answers to some of the most frequently asked career questions. You can find the toolkit for download on PSS career development web page.
Alongside this, we’ve developed a learning plan of largely 15 -20 minute microlearning modules, where you can investigate career development in more detail. Topics covered include creating a career development plan, writing applications, interviewing, leveraging your strengths and developing a professional network.
You can find the full learning plan on our Astute learning platform, under self-enrol courses at Astute LXP (astute-elearning.com)
We are sure this extended offer will be a great support for CDR conversations, and with time still left in this year’s CDR process there is likely something of value in the toolkit and eLearning you can bring to your CDR discussions.
You’ll also find that a good number of the courses and workshops available to book for this term have a career development focus. Look out for the term schedule shortly.
Development centres
Development centres are a learning and development initiative that will help you evaluate and understand your current strengths and development needs.
Taking part in a development centre will shape and support your ongoing and future development plans and provide you with insight to take your career forward.
As of May 2024 we are planning a pilot programme for PS Staff at salary band 7 in summer 2024. The programme will be made available more widely depending on the outcome of the pilot programme.

Across 2023 you gave us lots of feedback about some of the things that could be better in the CDR process. We've implemented all of these. There's one form instead of three, a lighter touch version of the process, eLearning support for people managers and clear video and form guides to support you through every stage of the CDR cycle. You can find out more about what's new and it how the changes can make your life easier here.
You can also check out a message from our COO Andrew Young about CDRs for all PS staff in the video below.
