I am a member of staff who would like access to School dashboards

Getting a user account

Email tech.support@lse.ac.uk with information on your department or division. This will determine which user groups you are added to and ensure you get access to the right dashboards.

Logging in

Once tech.support@lse.ac.uk has confirmed your account has been created you can login to tableau server at https://tableau.lse.ac.uk/ .

If you are on-campus clicking the link will take you to a login page.

If you are off-campus you will need to connect to the VPN before clicking on the link.

I am a member of staff who would like to create a dashboard

If you wish to create a dashboard using your own data you will need a Tableau Creator Licence which will enable you to set-up Tableau Desktop on your pc. Up-to-date costs and further information on how to purchase a licence can be obtained by emailing the Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist in DTS via tech.support@lse.ac.uk. The BI specialist will also provide advice on your responsibilities as a Tableau Developer/Creator at LSE. These include:

  • Ensuring you install the correct version of Tableau Desktop and regularly update the version in line with the requirements of Tableau Server.
  • Attend Tableau Creator meetings every two months to keep abreast of the latest Tableau developments in the School.
  • Create all your dashboards in line with the current School Style Guide for visualisations.
  • Ensure your project folders are created and used in line with current guidance from the BI Specialist.
  • Contribute constructively to discussions on the development and use of Tableau Server.

Once you have purchased a Tableau Desktop licence you will become a Tableau Creator. This means you can start to develop your own dashboards and publish them to the server. Further advice on role of Tableau Creator/Developer alongside training and development advice for Tableau Creators can be found here.

I am a new member of staff taking over responsibility for content developed by a previous staff member

You will need to contact the Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist in DTS (via tech.support@lse.ac.uk) to request that the desktop licence is transferred to you and discuss transferring any relevant projects and workbooks.
