Apple’s WebKit browser was recently infected with a bug that carried out zero-click browser attacks, meaning that just by looking at a webpage, without clicking anything (hence zero-click), it could steal private data, make unauthorised changes, or implant malicious software. This vulnerability affected all browsers, including non-Apple browsers such as Firefox and Chrome, on iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Apple has recently released security updates for all its devices, so we recommend you update if you have any of the following devices:
- MacBooks - update to the latest version of Mac to Monterey 12.2.1
- LSE MacBooks - upgrade to an earlier version of MacOS
- iPhone/iPad – update to iOS 15.3.1 and iPads to iOS 15.3.1
- If you have an older Apple device, please update your Safari browser to version 15.3*
To update your devices, search for ‘Settings’, ‘General’ and ‘Software Update’.
Although there are no anti-virus apps for iPhones and iPads, it is best practice to install anti-virus apps on your Mac. If you haven’t already, you can download Sophos for free here.
