Managing indoor temperature during hot weather
During periods of hot weather, please use this guidance from the Estates Division to help manage indoor temperatures and keep our campus environment safe and comfortable.
Use of windows and blinds
To prevent solar gains, blinds should be lowered during the day, particularly in single offices and open-plan areas.
Windows that can be, should be left open slightly ajar (up to 10cm), though if the outdoor temperature exceeds the indoor temperature, we recommend they be closed. If your office is located on the ground floor, please make sure windows are closed for security and safety reasons.
Building specific guidance
Where operationally feasible, staff may temporarily work from cooler workstations across campus. Some desks must be booked in advance via the Eptura app and are subject to availability. The table below lists the available spaces and provides links to booking instructions.
Support from the Estates team
During periods of extreme heat, campus heating will be switched off, and our maintenance team will monitor temperatures around campus.
Please report any issues to the Estates Helpdesk via the self-service portal or email estates-help-desk@lse.ac.uk if you are unable to access the portal.
