LSE and the SU bring you Green Week, a week of events and activities that spark conversation and action around sustainability (for staff and students!)

The week features a mix of events, activities, and talks! Jump in, try something new and spark a conversation along the way. Some events need to be booked in advance and spaces fill up fast, so be sure to reserve your place.

All week

A Beaver's Tale: an exhibiton on 130 years of campus, culture and conservation sorrounding LSE's favourite animal! Atrium gallery, open to all (More info here)

Monday 23 March

Reclaimed Leather Crafting: Learn how to make a leather item of your choice! Brian will teach you how to make a glasses case, purse or earbuds case, you can take home! The session costs £5, with all materials, leather and patterns provided - SAL.B.07, 1-2PM (Email B.V.Williams@lse.ac.uk to book)

Dr Bike Maintenance: Have your bike looked at for free by two mechanics, learn about bike safety from local officers and receive free bike swag - Outside LRB, 12-2PM (no booking required, just turn up!)

Clothes Swap: Join the reuse economy and swap instead of shop. Bring between 1 to 10 clothing items, shoes, or accessories and swap them for new favourites - all for free! Bankside Basement Common Room, 5-8PM

A Sustainable Future: Rethinking Development TalkPhilippine Congressman Brian Poe discusses his book which outlines a vision for inclusive development rooted in good governance, environmental stewardship, and social equity. Hong Kong Theatre, CLM, 6:30-8:00PM (Register here)

Alterist Upcycled Fashion Pop-up Market with LSE Charity Shopget your clothes upcycled by local artists; they'll paint, pierce, embroider your clothes infront of you! Book Swap: The Library EWG, LSE LIFE and US Centre team will be chatting all things books, offering recommendations, and providing light refreshments. Just bring a book and leave with a new one! Escape Social Space, LSE Library, 12-2PM

Museum of Edible Earth Visit: Explore this exhibition at Somerset House with GSoS. You’ll see, smell, and even taste edible samples of clay, chalk, and mineral-rich soils from around the world in a session guided by the artist, masharu. Meet at the LSE Globe at 1:30pm. Please note, tickets are very limited, so sign up here!

Interactive Stall: What does climate change mean for health and social care? Learn from CPEC how environmental pressures affect the delivery, equity and resilience of health and social care systems, and discover what research is telling us about protecting vulnerable people in a warming world - Marshall building, 1-4PM

GSoS Conversation Café: The Global School of Sustainability’s wants to hear from staff and students, learn about your ideas and experiences, and explore how GSoS can best support you! SU Hall-Carpenter Room, 11AM-1PM (no booking required, just turn up!)

Wednesday 25 March

Air Pollution ProwlJoin Thomas Smith (Prof.) for a hands-on air pollution monitoring walk. Use a portable particulate matter monitor to track real-time air quality as you go. We’ll discuss key sources of urban air pollution and learn how to interpret the data. Snacks provided by GSoS! - meet at the LSE Globe, 2 - 3:30PM (sign up here).

Beavers & Wildlife Conservation: A talk by Dr Sean McCormack, a vet and wildlife conservationist who leads the Ealing Beaver Project (As seen on Sir David Attenborough’s ‘Wild London'!), exploring the science behind bringing beavers back and how rewilding works in practice, from policy to community action - LRB R01, 4-5PM (reserve your place)

Urban Biodiversity Workshop: Join a nature conservation interactive workshop on our city's wildlife, learn about the services provided by green spaces, the policy context, and how you can make a difference – CBG 1.02, 12– 1PM (Reserve your place)

Archives of Activism: Exploring Environmental Justice with Black Environment Network (BEN), Women's Environmental Network (WEN) & Special Guests - Cheng Kin Ku Building, 6 – 7:30PM (Reserve your place)

Creating a Career in Sustainable Startups: Interested in building a career in climate and sustainability focused businesses? Join this panel discussion with three LSE alumni founders who are turning climate ambition into real world impact - LSE GenDen, 6 - 7:30PM (Reserve your place)

Local Produce Showcase: A celebration of seasonal British produce, bringing sustainability from farm to plate. Foodari and our Executive Sous Chef will lead a demonstration showing how to turn ingredients into exceptional meals - Old Building 4th floor restaurant, 12-2PM, just turn up!

Thursday 26 March

Reusing Plastic into Fabric - Keychain edition: Join this session with Looply where you'll learn how to turn your plastic shopping bags into fabric and make a cute personalised keychain - tickets £5 with everything provided, 4 - 5:30PM (Book your place)

Creative Collaging Activity: Join LSE Volunteering in creating mood boards, decorations or spending some chill time on a creative activity using repurposed postcards, magazines and other materials. Join any time between 11:30am-1:30pm, LSE Volunteering Centre (reserve your spot)

From Waste to Vase: You will turn everyday waste items into decorative vases using the craft materials provided. Then, you'll be given daffodils to place in their decorated vases, highlighting how waste materials can be creatively reused and turned into something beautiful and useful! Rosebery Hall Common Room, 5-8PM, just turn up!

Friday 27 March 

Big Finale! The Waste Hackathon: design a behavioural change media campaign for LSE Sustainability team and gain practical experience, prizes, free food, a LinkedIn certificate and the chance to see your campaign shown across LSE campus - Bankside House Auditorium, 10AM-5PM (Reserve your place) (students only)
