We don't need a handful of perfect environmentalist, we need millions of people who try because they care.
At LSE, we encourage people to reflect on the three F’s: Food, Fashion, and Finance.
Food : Small changes to how you eat can make a big impact.
- Try cutting down on meat by making a few meals each week plant-based.
- When you shop, look for local produce to reduce food miles, and stick to seasonal fruits and vegetables for fresher, lower-impact choices.
- Reducing food waste is just as important: plan your meals, store food properly, and use up leftovers.
- If you can, support farmers and suppliers who use organic, regenerative, or fair-trade practices.
Fashion - Rethink how you shop for clothes.
- Choose fewer, better-quality items that will last.
- Steer clear of fast fashion; it’s designed for quick turnover and often comes at a high environmental and social cost.
- If something breaks, repair it, or try upcycling pieces into something new.
- Explore second-hand shops or swap items with friends to refresh your wardrobe without buying new.
- When you’re ready to part with clothing, donate it responsibly or recycle to give it another life instead of sending it to landfill.
Finance - Your money matters more than you think.
- Start by checking your household bills: switching to renewable energy providers is often simple and affordable.
- Look into ethical banking options and find out where your pension is invested; many funds now offer sustainable choices.
- When shopping, support local and independent businesses to strengthen your community and reduce reliance on large conglomerates.
- Every pound you spend is a way to show what kind of world you want to support, so aim to spend with purpose.
