Professor Susana Mourato, LSE's Vice President and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research) led LSE's recent visit to Beijing and Shanghai. The delegation was welcomed by Deans, faculty, and representatives of three of our partners in China: Peking University, Fudan university, and Tsinghua University.
Professor Susana Mourato was accompanied by Professor Giles Atkinson from the Department of Geography and Environment and Dr. Mengxi Pang from LSE's Global Academic Engagement team. In addition to meeting partner institutions, Professor Mourato also represented LSE at the Beijing Forum, a global conference which held its 20th anniversary in 2023.
The delegation had fruitful discussions with colleagues from three partner institutions, including visiting the Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development at Tsinghua University, with which LSE co-chairs the Global Alliance on Universities on Climate, and the LSE-Fudan Global Policy Centre based at Fudan University, Shanghai.
This visit to Beijing and Shanghai also featured opportunities to engage with local alumni groups, where Professor Mourato shared School updates and Professor Atkinson presented a recent research project in collaboration with OECD. LSE has several volunteer-run alumni chapters in China, providing opportunities for over 10,000 alumni to re-connect with the School and peers.
