Generate Business Clinics are run by one of our resident business advisors who can answer start-up related questions about ideation, go-to-market strategy to scaling. These sessions are open to all LSE students, alumni and staff who are looking for guidance on their start-up idea or business. You can book up to two sessions per term.

 

Tim Deeson

Business Clinics: Tim Deeson

If you’re just getting started with your business idea, book a clinic with our Entrepreneur-in-Residence Tim. These clinics are suitable if you want feedback on your idea, support with where to start, advice on your strategy and signposting to next steps. 

Tim provides holistic strategy and growth advice to founders. He has more than twenty years of experience as CEO, coach and board advisor for technology product and services companies, including the journey from founder to successful exit. His most recent venture was conversational AI product OpenDialog - acquired by The Panoply plc.

He has consulted on technology and digital experience strategy, execution and team management for more than a hundred organisations including Johnson & Johnson, BDO, Southbank Centre, Euromoney and ITV. His first digital agency, Deeson, was recognised with a Royal Warrant for their services to the Royal Household.

Dr Paroma Bhattacharya

Social Enterprise Clinics: Paroma Bhattacharya

If you’re building a social enterprise, book a clinic with our resident social innovation advisor Paroma. These clinics are suitable if you want to discuss topics including doing root cause analysis for a social problem, building a Theory of Change, social business models, problem-solution fit for impact, user-centric enterprise design in low-income and vulnerable contexts, measuring impact, systems mapping, systems change, or building start-up social venture teams.

Paroma has a Ph.D. in Management and her research interests and expertise lie in the field of social innovation and entrepreneurship, with a special focus on social business model innovation in the context of emerging economies, startup social venture teams and social innovation ecosystems. She has taught graduate and undergraduate level courses on Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the LSE and the Indian School of Design and Innovation Parsons, Mumbai. 

She is a Researcher-in-Residence at a growing startup social enterprise focused on Menstrual Hygiene in Kenya. She has also worked for several years as a startup coach for early stage social entrepreneurs at UnLtd India, a leading social enterprise incubator in India. Her research, work, and field experience, in the domains of Social Innovation and International Development, spans across 13+ years and several countries, including India, UK, Denmark, Sri Lanka and Kenya.

Ruben Portz

Growth Clinics: Ruben Portz

If you’re already running your startup and want support with how to scale, book a clinic with our Growth Expert in residence Ruben. These sessions are suitable if you are at seed/series A stage with more than £10,000 annual revenue. Ruben can help with increasing traffic, getting more leads from your website, and anything else related to getting more users and revenue.

Ruben has worked as the Head of Growth at Seneca Learning helping the company grow from pre-revenue to several millions in registered users and revenues, which led to an 8-figure exit. After that he worked as the Growth Lead within the leading VC firm Forward Partners.

He frequently hosts marketing and traction workshops for startup accelerators such as LSE Generate, Colorintech, and ValiBerlin. Ruben also runs the TractionPad website where he shares actionable startup marketing templates. He also hosts startup marketing courses on Udemy with over 26,000 students.

Victor is an MBA, LSE alum, LSE IDEAS Guest Lecturer, and LSE Generate Accelerator Programme (GAP) graduate. He has a defence consultant background and entrepreneur experience aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Over the last three years, Victor has worked on career-related blockchain, machine learning, and generative AI solutions. Last year, he launched VeteranGPT to help multinational service leavers find civilian jobs faster. Victor recently launched a flexible credit card to help Europe-based defence civilian and military professionals navigate their unique financial challenges.

Kanu is the Co-founder and CEO at Speek Health, an early-stage digital health start-up on a mission to break the cycle of teenage self-harm. Kanu has prior experience building a diagnostics business where she was responsible for raising funds, establishing sales partnerships with leading research and government organisations and conducting clinical trials. She has led strategic initiatives across 40+ countries with a focus on emerging markets. Trained as a Biotechnologist with a Masters in Management from the London School of Economics. Originally from India, Kanu has lived and worked in Delhi, Bangalore, Singapore, Philadelphia, Aberdeen and now London. 

Joanna is the Entrepreneurship Programme Manager at LSE Generate, and has over six years' experience delivering entreprenuership training programmes. She previously co-founded and ran an award-winning social enterprise supporting women into work through sustainable craft workshops, and was an early employee at a mental health tech startup. She was a 2016 Year Here fellow in social innovation, a 2017 Beyond Business awardee, and a 2018 UnLtd award winner.

Female Founders Mastermind: April Stephenson

If you’re an woman entrepreneur looking for small group sessions where you can share your challenges, get support and connect with other female founders, join our monthly Female Founders Mastermind, hosted by April Stephenson. These sessions are for you if you need support to reach your goals, are bored of working in isolation, and want direct access to industry leaders. 

April Stephenson is an LSE alumna and the founder of SimbaSave, which provides last-mile data and analytics for the impact sector. She has ten years experience in risk and decision science at startups and scaleups including Venmo, PayPal and Amazon.

Sustainability Clinics: Carbon Jacked

Want to get your environmental sustainability right from the start? Book a sustainability clinic with Carbon Jacked, an environmental start-up founded by an LSE alumnus. The clinic will help you understand how to get environmental sustainability right from the start, setting you up for long-term success. You’ll get a 1:1 scoping sessions to understand more about your business’ operations and structure, then Carbon Jacked will provide you with specific recommendations to minimise your environmental impact. They will also advise you on how to communicate what you’re doing with confidence.

Carbon Jacked is an environmental start-up that helps businesses and individuals take action on climate change. Saving the planet shouldn't be boring, so they’re working hard to inspire more people to take action and rewild the world. They have advised organisations including Sky Sports, Accenture, COAT, Rathfinny and Forest Green Rovers.  They help businesses lead on sustainability by providing expertise in sustainability, carbon accounting and storytelling.
