LSE is a global community of people and ideas in the heart of central London. We’re a specialist social sciences university, ranking third in the world in the QS subject rankings 2023 and as the top university in London in the Complete University Guide 2024. LSE’s motto “rerum cognoscere causas” means “to know the causes of things”. It was chosen to support the School’s founding purpose, “for the betterment of society”. Our ambition today is to be the leading social science university with the greatest global impact.

At a time of unprecedented change for the higher education sector, technology will play a central role in enabling the future success of LSE. The continuing pace of change in the technology landscape and digital services requires a collaborative and adaptive information technology leadership and organisation responsive to both the short- and longer-term demands of the School.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the CIO will provide strategic leadership with regard to the development and delivery of information systems and services, within a complex leading-edge academic environment. As the institutional expert on IT and digital, the CIO will engage with senior-level stakeholders across the School to identify business and technology needs and provide user-focused solutions.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of operating as a CIO in complex organisations, delivering excellence and improvement across the breadth of the portfolio. They will have the intellectual acuity and emotional intelligence to engage effectively with the broad range of internal and external stakeholders inherent in a progressive academic environment.
