Divisions and roles

One way or another all our professional services staff support the student journey from beginning to end and make sure that the student experience at LSE is second to none.

They make sure the campus has top class facilities that create a high quality learning environment. They make sure that the School’s finances are well managed. They make sure that our research is well communicated and informs the public debate. Without committed and professional support staff, the School would be less than the sum of
its parts.

Professional services staff either work within academic departments, or dedicated research centres or within standalone divisions that deliver core functions to the wider School, eg the Estates Division, the Finance Division, the Communications Division or the Information Management and Technology Division.

Succeeding at LSE

What does it take to succeed as one of LSE’s Professional Services staff? Commitment, hard work, and a shared belief in LSE’s core values and beliefs.

We always need good professional skills. A university needs maintenance people, accountants, managers, administrators, security staff, and many, many more people to make up its community.

We have a commitment to ‘equality of respect and opportunity’ (see our Ethics Code) – we value all our staff. Simply put, we couldn’t do it without you. So we offer good benefits, including training opportunities and generous leave.

If you’re looking for a rewarding move to a stimulating working environment, why not look through our job opportunities and see if we have the right one for you?

Development and training

Learning is at the very heart of LSE. We believe that ongoing learning and development helps to maintain our world class reputation and motivate our staff and colleagues.

Among our learning and development opportunities are:

  • a range of programmes covering, leadership and management development, personal effectiveness, equality and diversity, and essential work skills
  • personal coaching support on an individual basis
  • budget support for external courses
  • online learning options
  • remission of fees in respect of part-time degree and diploma programmes taken at LSE, for staff who have worked here for at least 12 months
  • a personal development programme called Learn for You - eligible staff may apply for a learning allowance of up to £200 to spend on the learning of their choice
  • Volunteering for All – employees are entitled to five working days per year for agreed volunteering activities.

Benefits and reward

We offer a salary that’s competitive within the UK sector and great benefits, including award-winning family friendly policies, professional development courses, and generous leave.

Join a world-leading university that expects much of its staff, but offers a stable and rewarding working life and knows the value of the work-life balance.

Why we’re different

Our academic standing speaks for itself. But let’s talk about what makes LSE special for our professional support staff, and why our turnover of staff is lower than the average for the UK HE sector.

Reputation

LSE is a cosmopolitan community, engaging with real world issues. As a globally respected institution, we need a bedrock of high-quality administrative and support professionals to keep us to running smoothly and efficiently. Our staff say they are proud to work here and proud of our reputation.

A good deal

LSE offers its support staff a good deal. In return for their hard work and commitment, we have salaries that are competitive within the UK sector, good pensions and a stable working environment where equality and diversity are valued. The leave package is generous and we take training and development seriously.

Extra curricular activities

There are also benefits on which it is hard to put a value, such as the vibrant location in the centre of London. You’ll have access to a wide range of extra curricular opportunities, from free public lectures with renowned speakers, to sport, singing, exhibitions, access to the Library and more.
