Supporting your students

There are a number of resources available to LSE students to support them to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding, and to explore some of the questions posed by generative AI tools.

Remember to always ensure that your students are aware of the Department or course’s position on the authorised use of generative AI. Eden has produced a Good practice guide: communicating with students about Generative AI in formative and summative assessments, based on a School-wide review of department AI policies and guidance.

  • AI Fluency: Framework & Foundations (Moodle course).  Anthropic developed the AI Fluency course in response to the growing need for comprehensive AI literacy in academic and professional settings. The course aims to bridge the gap between AI's potential and its practical, responsible use. It teaches participants how to effectively communicate with AI systems, understand their capabilities and limitations, and apply them ethically across various academic disciplines. Key topics include prompt engineering, critical evaluation of AI outputs, and strategies for integrating AI tools into research and learning workflows. The version of this course on Moodle has been specifically modified for the LSE community, incorporating additional exercises that reflect our unique academic context. These enhancements include discipline-specific examples, case studies relevant to social sciences, and practical applications aligned with LSE's research priorities.
  • Generative AI: Developing your AI Literacy (LSE staff and students only). This course was developed by the Digital Skills Lab and LSE100 in collaboration with colleagues from around the School, including the Data Science Institute, LSE Careers, LSE LIFE, and LSE Library. This course brings together resources from different parts of LSE to help students develop their skills in generative AI literacy.
  • LSE’s library provides guidance on citing and referencing at LSE, including how to reference generative AI tools.
  • The Library also provides guidance on copyright and AI
  • The Digital Skills Lab provides guidance on the use of Microsoft Copilot and Anthropic's Claude for Education
  • Remember to always ensure that your students are aware of the Department or course’s position on the authorised use of generative AI.

For further support on how to help you make informed decisions about using generative AI, communicate these choices to students, and clarify what is permissible, see our Generative AI FAQs for staff.
