2022 Pulse Survey

The 2022 Pulse Survey has been an opportunity for staff to share your views about how we've progressed since the start of the pandemic.

The Pulse Survey was open from 28 September to 28 October 2022. Please click here to access the survey webpage for the latest, including the survey outcomes.

2021 Pulse Survey

The 2021 Pulse Survey built upon the previous survey in 2020, offering staff the opportunity to comment on their experiences around wellbeing, workload and working practices.

Insights from the 2020 Pulse Survey were instrumental in shaping School-wide initiatives. One year on, 2021's survey aimed to ensure a more up-to-date understanding of staff wellbeing and work-life balance, as well as views on how this might be impacted through blended/hybrid working.

2020 Pulse Survey

Wellbeing and Future Ways of Working

The Pulse Survey in August/September 2020 was an opportunity to take the 'pulse' of the staff community during a challenging and unpredecented time. In particular, the survey focused on the implications of COVID-19 (and the resulting lockdown) for staff wellbeing and ways of working.

The results fed into work to address issues identified through the Pulse Survey and other feedback channels. There were also be opportunities, via dedicated workshops and other means, for staff to engage in meaningful discussions about longer-term actions.

Please click here to access the main results report. Areas could also request their own local results at a cost.

Staff Survey

2024 Staff Survey - Share your views, shape our School

The 2024 Staff Survey runs from 15 February - 8 March 2024. For more information about this year's survey, including FAQs and details about the confidentiality of responses, please see the staff survey webpage

2019 Staff Survey - Use Your Voice

The School ran its staff survey from 18 February until 15 March 2019. We are at an important juncture for the School as the LSE 2030 strategy is developed, and the survey was one important way to create a baseline for measuring our future progress.

Even more important, the staff survey was a prime opportunity for staff to use their voice as part of LSE and engage with the School community. These insights helped us to take stock of where the School was and how we could build an even more inclusive working environment based on shared expertise and collaboration. All survey responses were anonymous and only shared where at least 10 responses were received for a department.

2015 Staff Survey

LSE’s 2015 staff survey ran from mid-November until mid-December 2015. The survey results were published in February 2016 and an action plan was formulated based upon an analysis of those results.

The action plan looked at key themes that emerged from the survey results and determined a number of activities to be delivered in support of each theme and within defined timescales. You can find the full version of the final action plan here.

In May 2017, the School ran its first ever pulse survey, which was an opportunity to take stock of how staff felt the School was doing and understand whether the action plan was taking the School in the right direction.

Since the pulse survey, there has been an all-inclusive approach to staff engagement through the work of the Staff Engagement Advisory Group as well as Staff Voice workshops that brought together groups of staff of all levels from across the School to identify and develop more ways to improve the staff experience.

As some of the direct outcomes of the 2015 survey and its follow-up activities, we have:

  • Celebrated 125 Excellence in Education and Teaching Promotion Awards, and 437 colleagues’ nominated as part of the expanded Values in Practice Awards in 2018.
  • Been recognised in Stonewall’s Top 100 Employers list, highlighting us as one of the best employers for lesbian, gay, bi and trans staff.
  • Delivered our second PSS Conference with support from LSE academics, and shared our expertise to enhance ways of working and educating at our new Education Forums.
  • Delivered leadership and development programmes for all School leaders, ensuring all staff are provided with consistent training and supported in senior roles. This training will continue on an ongoing basis.
