The HR Casual and Hourly Operations team provide support for all departments and divisions in the employment and payment of all irregular and part time teaching staff members.

Right to work checks

Those who are offered an hourly-paid contract must demonstrate that they have the right to work in the UK before they start employment.

You must ensure that you ask the individual whether he or she requires a visa to work in the UK before offering an hourly-paid contract at the School.

For further guidance on how to do this - please refer to our visa and immigration guides.

Casual contracts

Casual contracts are used when employing an individual on a one-off basis for no more than 35 hours, over a period of no longer than one month.

Those who are employed on a casual basis need to demonstrate that they have the Right to Work in the UK before they start employment.  The School reserves the right to not pay for any work done before a Right to Work check is completed.

The Casual claim form can be downloaded from the LSE Payroll webpage.  Once the form is completed, please send the digitised version to fin.div.payroll@lse.ac.uk for processing.

Please refer to this guidance document for details on appointing Casual staff. For a visual outline of the process of recruiting for casual contracts, click here to access a flowchart. Contact hr.pay.hourly@lse.ac.uk in case of any queries.
