Recycling and disposing of old IT equipment

How to dispose of old IT equipment at LSE

DTS and Estates are working collaboratively to manage the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) recycling and disposal within LSE.

With your support, we can significantly increase the reuse potential of equipment no longer needed by treating them with the same care as regular assets. Additionally, by providing us with enhanced details on the items you need collected, you can assist us in managing our WEEE disposal process by:

- Stacking items into groups of similar items and place any keyboards/mice/power leads/small peripherals in a box/crate.

- Complete the new WEEE collection form supplied by the portering team, where you can:

- Record the quantities of items for collection.
- Record the asset number(s) where present.
- Send a photo of the items to be collected.

Internal collection: Log a request for porters to empty the container on Estates Portal (lse.ac.uk) (select 'collect WEEE for disposal'). Students should email: estates.porters@lse.ac.uk.

Disposing LSE IT Equipment that are not on School premises (users' homes)

If you have LSE IT equipment at your home that needs to be disposed of contact your department/division as it is their responsibility to arrange for the equipment to be returned to LSE. They will coordinate the logistics of retrieving the equipment from your home. After the equipment has been returned to campus, complete WEEE collection form and the porters will collect the equipment to safely dispose them.

Over the coming months, the process for arranging WEEEE collections will be changing to gather further information ahead of your collection. Further information will be available in due course.
