It is vital to contact the Roaming Expert (support@roamingexpert.com) or Tech Support (tech.support@lse.ac.uk) prior to travelling internationally to ensure you are fully aware of any costs or additional charges that may be liable in the country(s) you may be visiting.
SPEND CAP – VARIABLE DATA AND ROAMING CHARGES
Spend caps have been added to our account to prevent unexpected charges and “bill shock”. The spend cap is supported by an email alerting system that allows end users to monitor when they have reached various thresholds of their cap. Spend caps are intended to be a spending safety net, they should be set at a level where they will be rarely triggered.
If an end user hits their spend cap it will restrict any chargeable call, text or data instances but it will allow them to continue to utilise the services included within their monthly tariff. It is important to note that if a spend cap is removed mid-month, any over-spend above the spend cap amount, that has been nullified by the active spend cap, will become chargeable. This is standard across all operators.
For example: if a user has a cap set at £250.00 but has used £5,000.00 roaming, if the cap needs to be lifted mid-month, the full £5,000.00 would be chargeable and any subsequent charges in that billing month.
The spend cap can be lifted even if the user is roaming. The network SLA to remove restrictions is 24 hours, but it rarely takes this long. It is recommended that budget holders set the highest appropriate cap, to avoid impact on service. The request to lift the cap will require budget holders’ authority and this can delay lifting the bar especially out of hours and at the weekends.
The default spend cap for new lines is £30 and it is important that this is reviewed prior to overseas travel. The £30 cap is intended for those users who will not roam outside of the EU on School business. The £200 cap is intended for those that will travel outside on a regular basis where the Business Zones and World Zone charges apply. If you wish to make a change to your spend cap, please ask your budget holder to make the request to tech.support@lse.ac.uk at least a month in advance of travel.
When planning a trip where World Zone charges apply it is essential advice from our partner Roaming Expert in advance of travel (email: support@roamingexpert.com or telephone: 00443300555777). Allow sufficient time for changes to your account to be made, such as issuing of SIMs and budget authorisation process. Please note there are some countries in the World Zone where it will be cost prohibitive to make significant use of the School’s tariff. In these countries it is likely to be more cost effective to make use of a local SIM and claim this back via expenses.
