Public Events & Lecture Spaces

Please note that support outside the hours of 08.30-18.00 must be pre-arranged and may require funding. 

Not all events require a technician present. Contact us for advice.

The LSE has several public events and lecture spaces available for use.

LSE Cities - The Peacock Theatre

The standard equipment for each room is listed below:

Alumni Theatre

The Alumni Theatre is located in the Cheng Kin Ku Building CKK.

The following equipment is available:

  • 2 x LR cables for wired microphones can be run across the front of the theatre (wired table microphones that give some amplification but are mainly for recording purposes – not suitable for speakers who are softly spoken)
  • Lectern microphone fixed onto the teaching table
  • 2 x wireless microphones (1 x handheld and 1 x lapel: can be changed if prearranged).
  • Wired induction loop, requires standard hearing aid set to T-loop position
  • 1 x fixed standard definition camera
  • Automated podcasting and lecture recording system (scheduled upon request)
  • Front projection system receives inputs from teaching desk that houses PC, visualiser, DVD and laptop input

Please note there is no sound feed in this room.

Clement House Rooms 

This information refers to Clement House rooms 202, 302, 402, 502, 602 and 702 only. 

These venues have a sound system for music and speech reinforcement, as well as a full projection system, however the number of microphone inputs is limited.

The following equipment is available:

  • 1 x lectern microphone on teaching desk
  • 1 x table microphone (can be extended)
  • 1 x wireless microphone available in room (stored in key-code safe)
  • 1 x handheld and 1 x lapel (available on request)
  • Infra-Red Hard of Hearing system. Requires a headset loaned from AV (available on request, at least 24hr in advance).
  • Automated podcasting and lecture recording system (scheduled upon request)
  • Display / projection facilities, lectern and sound feeds are available via special arrangement only

Mobile projection facilities can be installed in this area, however please note:

  • Trailing surface wires may be unavoidable.
  • Sightlines in this room may be limited.
  • Security of the equipment if out-of-hours will be your responsibility

Hong Kong Theatre

The Hong Kong Theatre is located on the ground floor of Clement House

The following equipment is available:

  • 5 x LR inputs for wired microphones located in 1 floor box on stage. (Wired microphones can be lectern mics, table mics, shotgun mics etc. dependent on nature of event)
  • 4 wireless microphones (2 x handheld and 2 x lapel: can be changed if prearranged)
  • 4 x LR sound feed either side of the projection room
  • 2 x LR inputs either side of the projection room (only one per side live by default)
  • Infra-Red Hard of Hearing system. Requires a headset loaned from AV  (available on request, at least 24hr in advance). 
  • 1 x PZT standard definition camera
  • Automated podcasting and lecture recording system (scheduled upon request)
  • Live streaming to other LSE rooms via windows media encoder PC/server
  • Stage lectern with microphone and presentation devices (as below)
  • Standard height table suitable for 3 speakers

Front projection system receives inputs from:

  • Lectern that houses PC, visualiser, DVD and laptop input
  • Laptop inputs & PC housed in projection room

Old Theatre

The Old Theatre is located on the ground floor of the Old Building

The following equipment is available:

  • 12  x LR inputs for wired microphones located in 3 floor boxes on stage. (Wired microphones can be lectern mics, table mics, shotgun mics etc. dependent on nature of event)
  • 8 x wireless microphones (4 x handheld and 4 x lapel: can be changed if prearranged)
  • 12 x LR sound feeds that are live as default located on the lower ground floor
  • 2  x LR sound feeds on the balcony
  • 1 x LR sound feed adjacent to the projection room at the rear of the first floor
  • Infra-Red Hard of Hearing system. Requires a headset loaned from AV  (available on request, at least 24hr in advance).
  • 2 x PZT standard definition cameras. Located on balcony
  • Automated podcasting and lecture recording system (scheduled upon request)
  • Live streaming to other LSE rooms via windows media encoder PC/server
  • Two projection systems are available on request, depending on the nature of the event it may be that only the front projection system is available.
  • Rear projection facilities receives inputs from lectern that houses PC, visualiser, DVD and laptop input
  • Signals can be sent from the projection booth
  • Secondary lectern that houses PC, visualiser, DVD and laptop input
  • Stage lectern with microphone and presentation devices (as above)

You can also request the following additional equipment for this space:

  • Stage tables/chairs (contact Events)
  • Lighting contol console (contact Estates) 
  • Onstage monitors for sending messages visible only to speakers (online questions etc)
  • Student Union Audio system - Separate wireless microphones, wired microphones, audio mixing desk owned by the Student Union

Peacock Theatre

The Peacock Theatre is located on Portugal Street

This theatre is shared with Sadler's Wells theatre company and governed by an entertainment license.

The staging area is subject to a variety of sets installed by Sadler's Wells that can limit its usage.

The equipment listed below may not be accessible unless prearranged and approved by the Peacock Theatre Manager: 

  • 12  x LR inputs for wired microphones located in 3 floor boxes on stage. (Wired microphones can be lectern mics, table mics, shotgun mics etc. dependent on nature of event)
  • 8 x wireless microphones (4 x handheld and 4 x lapel: can be changed if prearranged)
  • 8  x LR sound feeds that are live as default located audience (4) left and (4) right in the stalls
  • 4  x LR sound feeds adjacent to the balcony boxes
  • Infra-Red Hard of Hearing system. Requires a headset loaned from AV  (available on request, at least 24hr in advance).
  • 1 x PZT standard definition camera, located on balcony. This is not suitable for high quality recording.
  • Automated podcasting and lecture recording system (scheduled upon request)
  • Live streaming to other LSE rooms via windows media encoder PC/server
  • Stage lectern with microphone and presentation devices (as below)

Front/DUAL projection system receives inputs from:

  • Lectern that houses PC, 2 x visualisers, DVD and laptop input
  • Blu-ray, laptop inputs, PC housed in projection room
  • Projector can be centralised if single projector is required

You can also request the following additional equipment for this space:

  • Stage tables/chairs or slim-line lectern (contact Events)
  • Stage lighting (contact Sadler’s Wells)
  • Onstage monitors for sending messages visible only to speakers (online questions etc.)
  • High quality video recording – Cameramen can be hired to provide high quality vodcasts
  • Satellite trucks can park on Sardinia Street. Crews can run cable via rear of stage through the delivery exit for broadcasting
  • Multiple inputs can be shown on one projector
  • Tie lines from the green room to the projection booth (both HD and SD signals)

SDR/SCR

Located on the fifth flood of the Old Building the Senior Common Room
and Dining Room has a sound system for music and speech reinforcement. This can be configured for sound to be amplified in either the SDR or the SCR separately or simultaneously.

The following equipment is available: 

  • Infra-Red Hard of Hearing system. Requires a headset loaned from AV (available on request, at least 24hr in advance).
  • Single central projector
  • Teaching desk with PC, Laptop input, visualiser and DVD player.

You can also request:

  • Wired microphones
  • Wireless handheld microphones
  • Sound feeds 
  • Media/recording facilities 
  • Presentation furniture 

Shaw Library

Located on the sixth floor of the Old Building, the Shaw Library's (Founder's Room) primary purpose is as a library, student/staff study area, the home to the music practice room and venue for the weekly lunchtime music concerts.

The School tries to limit its use for other type of events, but will consider requests for bookings when no other appropriate venue in the School is available.

The following equipment can be requested: 

  • Wired microphones
  • Wireless microphones
  • Sound feeds
  • Hard of Hearing system
  • Media/recording facilities
  • Display/ projection facilities

While mobile projection facilities can be installed, please note:

  • Trailing surface wires may be unavoidable.

  • Security of the equipment if out-of-hours will be your responsibility

Events that start before 10.00 during term-time will only be supported if the venue can be secured the afternoon and evening before for set up, or if a technician is funded to work additional early hours. 

Sheikh Zayed Theatre

The Sheikh Zayed Theatre is located on the lower ground floor of the Cheng Kin Ku Building CKK.

The following equipment is available: 

  • 5  x LR inputs for wired microphones located in 2 floor boxes on stage. (Wired microphones can be lectern mics, table mics, shotgun mics etc. dependent on nature of event)
  • 6 x wireless microphones (2 x handheld and 4 x lapel: can be changed if prearranged. It is recommended where more than 2 lapel mics are used, a technician is present.)
  • 2 x LR sound feeds that are live as default located 3 rows back audience left and right
  • 1  x LR feed adjacent to projection room (can be converted to input via prior arrangement)
  • Wired induction loop, requires standard hearing aid, set to T-loop position
  • 3 x cameras with PZT standard definition cameras, vision mixer available in projection room
  • Automated podcasting and lecture recording system (scheduled upon request)
  • Live streaming to other LSE rooms via windows media encoder PC/server
  • Video Conference device installed within theatre
  • Stage lectern with microphone and presentation devices (as below)

Front/DUAL projection system receives inputs from:

  • Lectern that houses PC, 2 x Visualisers, DVD/VHS, laptop input
  • Laptop inputs & PC housed in Projection room
  • Single widescreen central projector, suited for showing films

Thai Theatre

The Thai Theatre is located in the Cheng Kin Ku Building CKK.

This is a 61 seat venue; however, the area at the front of the theatre is not very large. The amount of space is suitable for 2 speakers; more than this can be crowded and provide acoustic challenges if they are softly spoken. 

The following equipment is available: 

  • 2 x LR cables for wired microphones can be run across the front of the theatre (These wired microphones are table microphones that give some amplification but are mainly for recording purposes – not suitable for speakers who are softly spoken)
  • Lectern microphone fixed onto the teaching table.
  • 2 x wireless microphones (1 x handheld and 1 x lapel: can be changed if prearranged)
  • Wired induction loop, requires standard hearing aid set to T-loop position
  • 1 x fixed standard definition camera
  • Automated podcasting and lecture recording system (scheduled upon request)
  • Teaching desk with lectern microphone and presentation devices (as below)

Front projection system receives inputs from:

  • Lectern that houses PC, visualiser, DVD and laptop input
  • Laptop inputs and PC housed in projection room

Please note, there are no sound feeds in this room. 

PAN.G01

PAN.G01 is located on the ground floor of PAN (Pankhurst House) 

Occasionally used for small public events, when the more usual venues aren’t available. It is mainly used with table microphones for discussion panels at a standard height table and a lectern microphone for the main speaker, but does have a lapel wireless mic and a hand-held microphone, located in the safe within the room. 

The following equipment is available: 

  • 1 x  lectern mic behind the teaching desk
  • 3 x table mics
  • 2 x wireless microphones available (1 x handheld and 1 x lapel: can be changed if prearranged)
  • Sound feeds available by request
  • Infra-Red Hard of Hearing system. Requires a headset loaned from AV  (available on request, at least 24hr in advance).
  • Automated podcasting and lecture recording system (scheduled upon request)
  • Central projector
  • Teaching desk permanently installed with all presentation equipment
  • Standard height tables upon stage

Wolfson Theatre

The Wolfson Theatre is located in the Cheng Kin Ku Building CKK. 

This is a 130 seat venue; however the area at the front of the theatre is not very large. The amount of space is suitable for 2 speakers, more than this can be crowded and provide acoustic challenges if they are softly spoken.

  • 4 x LR cables for wired microphones can be run across the front of the theatre (These wired microphones are table microphones that give some amplification but are mainly for recording purposes – NOT suitable for speakers who are softly spoken)
  • Lectern microphone fixed onto the teaching table.
  • 4 wireless microphones (2 x handheld and 2 x lapel: can be changed if prearranged). It is recommended that all of these are only used if attended by a technician.
  • 1 x LR feed at the rear of the theatre stage left
  • 1 x fixed standard definition camera
  • Automated podcasting and lecture recording system (scheduled upon request)
  • Wired induction loop, requires standard hearing aid, set to T-loop position
  • Teaching desk with lectern microphone and presentation devices (as below)

Front projection system receives inputs from:

  • Teaching desk that houses PC, visualiser, DVD and aptop input
  • Laptop inputs & PC housed in projection room
