Cyber Security Training

Help keep LSE a place to study, work, and research.

Our annual cyber security training is a key part of our School’s ongoing efforts to protect ourselves against continuous cyber security threats. The training began last year in response to the heightened and ongoing risks in the higher education sector and is an annual requirement for staff to complete by the end of each academic year.

Each year the training is updated to include the latest tactics and types of social engineering being used to gain access to our network and helps colleagues understand how to report them quickly, which significantly increases our ability to protect our network.

For the 2023/24 academic year, please complete training no later than 1 July 2024.

How to take the training

Complete the training in 20-30 minutes at your convenience, on Moodle
In the course, you'll learn about keeping accounts, data, and devices safe and tactics used to try to gain access to your information - including the latest, most effective and most deceptive phishing attempts.

If you've already attended a session in the 2023/24 academic year with your department or division, there's no need to repeat the online course.

Join a group session

If you prefer to attend a scheduled session we have two ways you can receive the training from one of our School's Cyber Security experts:

  • Learn with your division or department

The Cyber Security Team can come to your team meeting to deliver the training, either in person or online (Teams / Zoom)  Training aims to be light-touch across phishing, data security, and device security topics, and will only take half an hour to complete. It will aim to be as informative but non-disruptive as possible. Q&As are welcome during group training sessions. Group training can be a stand-alone event or add-on to an all staff meeting.
  • If you’re a member of staff, talk to your manager about setting one up for your area. If you're a department / division / centre manager, please email dts.cyber.security.and.risk@lse.ac.uk to arrange an annual group training exercise.

Completed your training? Become a Cyber Champion...

Our Cyber Champions Programme aims to increase cyber security awareness across LSE by bringing together a group of volunteers from around our community.

Cyber Champions have two main tasks:

1. Inform colleagues how to spot and report phishing
2. Encourage colleagues to complete annual cyber security training.

Any full-time staff member with an LSE email address can volunteer as a champion, whether they just joined LSE or have worked for many years at our School. Academic and PSS staff are equally needed.
