My name is Opeyemi Yusuf and I am an Administrative assistant at LSE. I am very thankful to my staff member’s for nominating me and appreciative of the opportunity to contribute and build my skills within LSE.

Black history month to me is a time where black accomplishment and history can be celebrated and recognised as well as reflect on black Injustice and inequality and discuss the ways to fight this. As Woodson says, “If a race has no history, it has no worthwhile tradition, it stands in danger of being exterminated.”

Young black and gifted is reflective of Nina Simone Black empowerment song. It conveys that young black Africans have immense worth’s and value. To me the term invokes a sense of pride, strength, endless opportunity, success, empowerment and so much more. ‘To be Black is to be Gifted’.
