Race Equity Framework

Theme lead:

Professor Susana Mourato, Vice President and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research)

Led by the Vice President and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research) with the Director of the PhD Academy and Head of Research Development as co-leads, the Research strand focuses on making sure our research and knowledge exchange activities contribute to understanding race equity within and beyond LSE.

Overview of Research actions:

  • Increasing minority ethnic representation among public speakers and visiting faculty
  • Convening and curate existing LSE expertise on race, ethnicity and cultural identity through new web content, blogs and public events
  • Embedding race within LSE research by encouraging and supporting faculty to consider issues of race, ethnicity and cultural identity within their research
  • Commissioning research to understand the School’s present and past in terms of race equity and help shape the future
  • Auditing imagery and representation across the LSE campus and website, and consider how to honour distinguished minority ethnic alumni
  • Targeting support and funding for minority ethnic PhD students, in particular considering the interaction between race and socioeconomic background
  • Auditing research support to identify and address any systemic inequalities affecting the career progression of minority ethnic researchers
  • Supporting and investing in new and innovative research on race-related issues, drawing on LSE strengths

These pages are being updated as the roll-out of the Framework continues and as actions are refined, with the input of our LSE community.
