It's back! This summer, the School is taking part in the Virgin Pulse Global Corporate Challenge (GCC).

You can find full details of what's involved by clicking on the link to the left which will take you to the School's official GCC webpage. In the meantime, read on for a few quick pointers.

If you're new to GCC, the concept is simple. Join up with colleagues to form a team of 7, nominate a team captain and sign up through the webpage. With GCC, every activity you take part in will help your team to climb the leaderboard.

It's a fully inclusive experience. You don't need to be a gym bunny or a fitness fanatic - everyone who joins a team will receive their own activity tracker which will count everything you do during the 100 days of the Challenge, whether it's a stroll or a sprint, a meander or a marathon.

If you've taken part in GCC before, take a look at the host of new features, including:

  • A health dashboard: your customised and holistic health coach, cheerleader and motivational speaker, all rolled into one!
  • Earn points to track your new healthy behaviours.
  • Discover everything you need to know about your health profile with Health Hub.

Discover the motivation or keep the motivation going - become a happier, healthier you this summer. Join GCC and let's get active!

What is GCC?

Global Corporate Challenge (GCC) is an international team fitness event for workplace all around the world - it usually sees about 40,000 (!) teams take part. The School previously took part in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

How do I get involved?

You'll need to be in a team of 7 to take part in GCC. Have a chat with your colleagues to see who's interested - once there's 7 of you, simply decide a team captain and register on the main GCC webpage (you'll find a link on the left side of this page).

Why should I get involved?

If you're not sure whether you'd like to take part in GCC this summer, it may help to ask a colleague who's participated previously - it's a brilliant blend of fun and competition, as well as being a great motivator for colleagues in past years to take greater interest in their personal health and fitness.

GCC isn't just about counting steps. There are all kinds of real benefits that can come out of taking part - whether it's giving you some food for thought about nutrition, feeling more focused (in and out of work), or rebooting your sleep routine.

What does being a team captain involve?

Winning isn't everything with GCC. We do though hope to see a spirit of friendly competition. This is where team captains come in - as a team captain, you play an important role in motivating the team to go the extra mile. If any extra motivation is needed, captains will also receive regular progress reports throughout the 100 days.

We don't expect that being a team captain will mean a big time investment. If you're keen to get active this summer, becoming a team captain will get you right to the heart of the action!

I'm busy - how do I find the time?

Put simply, GCC just doesn't require much of your time - whether or not you're a team captain. You'll receive an activity tracker when you join a team, and everything counts - including your commute and any walking you do as part of the work day.

What else is going on this summer?

We do hope that you find the time to get involved in GCC this summer. If it's not for you, there's still plenty of other activities going on as part of the Staff Summer Festival, including our annual programme of regular fitness and wellbeing, not to mention the Summer Term Wellbeing Week - more details soon!
