Digital Assistive Technology

The Digital Skills Lab offers support with digital assistive technology. Find out about inclusivity tools to help with study, research, organisation and planning.

Digital Assistive technology encompasses a range of inclusivity tools which can help students with a wide range of tasks. These are particularly helpful for students who have a specific learning difference (SpLD) such as dyslexia, are neurodivergent or just need some help with concentration and organisation. Most of the tools are already available on Windows and Mac devices.

The benefits of using these tools in office 365 can help with:

  • Increase concentration by having documents, PDFs and emails read out loud (Text to Speech)

  • Review written work and emails by having them read out or presented in an easy-to-read format

  • Dictate and transcribe thoughts and ideas directly onto the page

  • Record meetings, small lectures and have it transcribed

  • Organise work in one place

In addition, there are dedicated tools available, such as:

  • MindView to map your ideas and projects

  • Read&Write to improve document creation and revision
