Broaden your horizons

If you are keen to meet people from all around the world and immerse yourself in other cultures and traditions, you are spoilt for choice at LSE. This will not only help you to grow as a person, but to also broaden your horizon and expand your critical thinking.

You have plenty of opportunities to travel throughout your degree, whether studying abroad with GO LSE or making connections across Europe through participating in the diverse CIVICA programme. You can also embrace our international community right here in London though! For instance, why not develop your language skills with the Language Centre, learn more about different faiths with the Faith Centre or join one of the LSESU’s many national and cultural societies?

Think about your perspective

  • Where do your ideas about other people and places come from — travel, family, friends, news, what you've read?
  • When you meet someone with a very different background, what's your instinct — ask questions, listen, compare, hold back?
  • What's something you've always treated as "normal" that might only be normal to you?
  • Which languages, places, or traditions are you most curious about — and what's stopping you from exploring them?

Reflect on the unfamiliar

  • What opinion of yours has shifted since arriving at LSE — and what changed it?
  • What's somewhere — a country, a society, a conversation — you've been meaning to explore but haven't yet?
  • When have you felt out of your depth in a good way? What made it worth it?
