Working in the social sciences involves assessing complex ideas and there are relatively few categorically “right answers” - everyone has their own point of view! At LSE, we don’t just want you to learn about these different points of view: We want to equip you to think about them critically, develop your own opinions and thus, to join and contribute in academia yourself.
Learning Lab can help you to better understand what is expected of you as an LSE student and support you in developing and refining your positions.
Think about how you learn
-
When do you learn best - morning or evening, alone or with others, quietly or with background buzz?
-
What kinds of activities help ideas click for you - reading, talking, drawing, teaching others, writing things out?
-
How do you usually start new tasks - by planning, experimenting, diving straight in, or waiting until you feel ready?
-
How do you know when you’ve really understood something? What’s your test for that?
Reflect on your progress
-
What have you learned recently that genuinely surprised you?
-
What’s one idea, skill, or habit that you’ve developed since coming to LSE?
-
What challenges have helped you grow — even if they were frustrating at the time?
-
When have you felt most confident in your studies? What made that moment possible?
